We are hiring four new vessel managers
Solvang looks to recruit Vessel Managers (Technical Superintendents and Project Engineers) with a genuine interest in continuous improvement, for start up autumn 2024. Areas of responsibility include the CCS pilot and newbuildings, as well as “expert” roles on selected digital tools. Work will follow Solvang’s environmental policy and ISO14001.

Solvang is a Norwegian shipping company headquartered in Stavanger, with offices in Oslo and Manila, Philippines. Solvang delivers petchem tonnage operating a fleet of 21 vessels, plus 7 newbuilds for delivery shortly. Solvang carries out R&D and pioneers zero-emission technology. Our aim is to be an industry-leading provider of LPG, ammonia and petrochemical tonnage in a safe, clean and cost-efficient manner.
Company development
Solvang expects seven newbuildings delivered in 2026/2027, representing highly advanced technology to comply with enforced environmental regulations. Our pioneer Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) pilot onboard gas carrier Clipper Eris is promising. Following the initial pilot starting ultimo 2024, we plan to implement CCS onboard most of the newbuildings. We also plan to continue the development of Solvang’s ECO-LPG programme.
Technical environment
The technical environment include advanced ballast cleaning systems, oily water separators, CSR with urea for auxiliary engines (TIR III control), Solvang’s LP-EGR system for NOx-TIR III control on main engines, an exhaust gas cleaning system for SOx, and particle control (first generation), hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system with electrostatic particle filters (WESP) for SOx and particle control onboard 12 vessels. Solvang applies TEKOMAR/Loreka for engine performance monitoring, Skf Vibration analysis, Operim for cargo handling monitoring and control, Star maintenance system, and StormGeo for digital noon reports.
4 new Vessel Managers
Solvang’s technicians are organized in fleet groups responsible for a number of vessels, each group holding various specialists. Solvang aims to recruit 4 new Vessel Managers (Technical Superintendents) with a genuine interest in continuous improvement. Startup for employment will be during autumn 2024 depending on applicants’ availability. Areas of responsibility include the CCS pilot and newbuildings, as well as “expert” roles on selected digital tools. Work will follow Solvang’s environmental policy and ISO14001.
The Vessel Manager reports to the Fleet Manager for the assigned group of vessels, acting as a resource for the whole organization.
The Vessel Manager’s tasks
- Maintain overall status of dedicated vessels
- Perform onboard inspections
- Plan, distribute and conduct onboard technical tasks
- Support purchasing
- Perform budgeting and reporting
- Manage Statutory and Class certificates
- Manage PMS system
- Conduct quality control of safety management
- Manage Class and Company dockings
- Perform crewing support
Preferred background
- Higher maritime/marine engineering education
- Experience as seagoing personnel, preferred engineer.
- Experience from similar positions within maritime/offshore industry.
