Performance

VLGC

To keep our commitment for continuous improvement, we constantly measure our performance. We have defined a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within different areas. By analysing these, we are able to show our performance, document our improvement and identify areas where we need to improve.

Systematic registration, measurement and evaluation form the basis of our KPIs. The data allows us to identify and implement the best operational practice in terms of health, safety, the environment and operations. Measurements and registrations are made using a number of systems. One example is the Vessel Performance Monitoring system developed in-house, which deals with all aspects relating to the vessels' technical performance. A number of parameters are measured daily onboard. The figures are sent to the office where they are subjected to thorough evaluation.

In total, we have approximately 70 KPIs in the following areas; Safety, Human resources/Health, Environment, Training, Fleet operation and Vetting & Inspections. Detailed information of our performance in our primary focus areas can be found in the menu to the left.

Health

What and how we eat may have a profound effect on our safety and work performance. A diet that provides a right mix of nutrients is essential to good health but it aslo keeps our crew alert!

Our policy is therefore to improve the health of all crew members. We encourage a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition and physical activity.

Our priority areas are:

  • Prevention of overweight and obseity.
  • Prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Prevention of type 2 diabetes.

Operational measures to meet these priority areas are:

  • Increase availability of whole grain cereals and whole grain bread.
  • Increase availability of fruits and fresh vegetables.
  • Reduce availability of unhealthy fat.

All vessels offer one extra healthy dish option at each meal, thus making it easier for the crew to increase their nutrient intake and to make good choices for themselves. The healthy choice recipes are nutritionally balanced, developed by nutritionists.

Safety

Solvang shall be regarded as the preferred carrier for safe and reliable transportation of LPG and petrochemical gases world wide. We shall at all times strive for a high level of safety in all operations.

Our success depends on our willingness to apply certain principles and practices in our work. In Solvang we call it Safe Sailing. Safe Sailing assist us in understanding and manage risk and in preventing accidents. We point at six factors that influence our decisions onboard: The factors are communication, operational atmosphere, culture, procedures, stress / workload and sleep / fatigue. When these factors are known to and considered by all team members onboard our vessels, the result is better situational awareness, more correct decisions and safer ships.
